Frequently Asked Questions

Frequently Asked Questions About Awkward Money

1. What’s the difference between coaching and therapy? Can I choose either?

Coaching focuses on actionable steps to improve your financial habits, set goals, and create sustainable strategies for the future.
Therapy dives deeper—exploring your emotional relationship with money, including financial trauma and past experiences.

Note: Therapy is currently available only to California residents due to licensing regulations. Coaching is open to all.

2. How do I know if I’m ready to start financial coaching or therapy?

You might be ready if:

  • You feel overwhelmed by money decisions or avoid your finances altogether.

  • You struggle with guilt, shame, or anxiety around money.

  • You’re ready for practical tools to help you feel more confident and in control.

Still unsure? Try our [Financial Trauma Quiz] to get clarity.

3. Do you offer payment plans for coaching or therapy?

Yes! We offer flexible payment options for both coaching and therapy. You can pay in full or choose monthly installments. A 50% deposit is required to begin, with the remaining balance spread across the program duration.

Custom payment plans are also available—just reach out and let’s talk.

4. What tools or systems do you use for coaching? Will I need to learn something new?

We use ADHD-friendly tools like Notion templates, habit trackers, and gamified budgeting systems. No prior experience is needed—I’ll walk you through each tool step-by-step.

5. How soon will I see results with coaching?

While everyone’s journey is unique, many clients start to feel relief and clarity within the first month. After three months, most clients have a working budget, reduced money-related stress, and clear financial goals.

6. What can I expect during the first session?

We’ll start by discussing your financial history, goals, and any emotional patterns around money. I’ll guide you through a brief financial audit and introduce you to the tools we’ll be using. You’ll leave the session with clarity, direction, and a plan for moving forward.

7. What are your qualifications and experience?

I’m a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT) based in California, with specialized training in financial trauma, ADHD, and trauma-informed care. I help clients navigate financial anxiety, compulsive spending, and the emotional side of money using evidence-based practices and practical tools.

  • An ADHD-friendly Notion Template to track your progress

These tools are designed to help you feel confident and supported every step of the way.

10. Is financial advising the same as financial trauma coaching?

Not at all. Here's the key difference:

  • Financial Advisors focus on investments, retirement planning, and wealth management.

  • Financial Trauma Coaching focuses on healing your relationship with money—addressing past trauma, emotional triggers, and building sustainable habits.

If you’re looking to understand your money story and transform it, coaching may be the right path for you.
